Next up on our vacation was two stops in Juneau, Alaska's state capital. The first stop was very short so we just visited a couple shops around the dock and asked around about how the shuttles to the glacier worked. The second stop we had a whole day so we got to see a lot of things!
Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls
First up was to hop on one of the local shuttles and then a hike around Mendenhall Glacier. We choose the Nugget Falls Trail which was about 2 miles round trip and went all the way to the base of Nugget Falls. Nugget Falls is a massive water fall right next to Mendenhall Glacier. Both the glacier and the falls were fantastic. We spent a lot of time taking pictures and video of everything! We saw seagulls doing loops in the waterfall spray, small boats paddling up to the glacier, lupins, fireweed, and lots and lots of people!
Once back in town, we had a quick lunch at the Hanger on the Wharf Pub and Grill and then we were off for some serious shopping. We stopped at the little shop for the glacier silt soap called Glacier Smoothie, peeked in the Red Dog Saloon, visited the Heritage Coffee shop (right across from the local quilt shop Changing Tides), Del Sol, and lots more. It's always fun to just get to wander on trips and see all the tourist stuff! It was the perfect day too! Lots of sun. The locals kept telling us how lucky we were to be there on such a beautiful day. It was so sunny that this was the only day on the trip that I got sunburned....go figure.....but thankfully it heal up really fast.
